Church of St Catherine of Alexandria The first church of Tabán district stood at the place of Rudas bath, a medieval stone carving depicting Jesus was found here. The copy of that carving can be found inside the church. Sokollu Mustafa pasa ordered a mosque to be built here, this mosque survived retaken of Buda in 1868 and was visible till 1765. Transformation of the mosque into a church begain in 1728, the former mosque was used as the sanctuary of the church, the new organ made by John Stadinger was installed in 1738. The remains of the djami were finally destroyed in 1765 when a new sanctuary was built. The crypt below the church was made in 1749, works on the tower were started in 1750. The sanctuary was partially destroyed in 1849 during the revolution. The church was repaired between 1880 and 1881, its facade was decorated in neorenessance style. The facade was restored in a simplified form after WWII, frescoes in the interior were removed.
