Mary square

Mary square is decorated with a pest memorial column dating back to 1710. It used to stand at Batthyány square but was moved here in 1828 because a new guard house was to be built there. The present statue was carved by Anton Hörger in 1724, it depicts Virgin Mary with St Catherina from Siena and John of Nepomuk. It is clear from the travel journeys of a german traveller named Keissler that there were two more figures in 1730.
