St. Francis church

Saint Francis church is the olden church of Viziváros district, it was built on the spot of a former turkish mosque between 1703 and 1732. Bosnian monks settled here a few years after Buda was retaken from the turks, they started to build their new monastery and a small chapel in 1701. The foundation stone of the new church was layed in 1731 and it was ready by 1741. The east-west building siting follows traditions of the monks. The richly decorated interior was ready by 1756. There is a high contrast between the simple interior and the lavishly decorated interior of the church.
