Vienna gate (Bécsi kapu) used to be the northern portal of the castle in medieval times and was originally called as Saturday Gate. The nearby located Wien Gate square was called as Saturday market square since they held markets there on saturdays. The old gate was destroyed in 1896, the currently visible one was created in 1936 on the 250th anniversary of retaken of Buda from the turks.
